About Our Founder

Vinay Malik has a strong academic and practical background in technology, business, and patent law. This unique blend of experience and expertise along with his commitment to client satisfaction, has allowed him to work with some of the most prestigious law firms and companies in the world, assisting them in high stakes patent litigation. Mr. Malik currently leads the NiP-Strategies team where he trains and supervises the analysts to ensure they are providing high quality patent litigation support to clients.

Vinay has a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Electrical Engineering. He also obtained a Master’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, graduating with high honors. His Masters thesis dealt with Asynchronous Transfer Mode Networks. Thereafter, he obtained his Juris Doctorate, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Mr. Malik was also an editor of the Federal Circuit Bar Journal while in law school.

Vinay started his career working as a network engineer for Internet Service Providers. Here, he gained hands-on engineering experience, working on a variety of networking equipment.

He then worked as a patent prosecutor and litigator at the nation’s top patent law firms where he represented clients in a broad range of technologies including but not limited to: telecommunication technologies; computer software and architecture; smart grid technologies; biometric identification/verification technologies; semiconductor technologies; and Internet technologies.

Significant Engagements

Sun Microsystems, Inc v. NetApp Inc. (Northern District of California) Represented Sun in three separate patent infringement cases involving computer microprocessors, operating systems, file systems, and network infrastructure. Obtained favorable settlement.

Represented a client against numerous financial institutions in a series of patent infringement cases involving telecommunications, encryption, and other security related technologies.

Represented a client in defending a patent infringement case involving wearable computing devices.
